Windows and French doors are often designated by fire safety planners as a secondary escape route within a building. However, it is essential to consider the type of shading and operating mechanism for these windows. If roller shutters with motorized drives are used, the shutters can quickly become a trap in the event of a power outage.

When equipped with our 12-volt drives or our emergency hand crank systems, the roller shutter curtains can be opened in fractions of a second using the low-voltage motor or the crank rod to clear the way out in emergency situations.

Crank rod in case of fire

Emergency hand crank (EHC) systems, in addition to our 12-volt drives, offer a quick way to open a second escape and rescue route in residential buildings, retirement homes or office buildings.

Often, in addition to stairwells and doors as the primary escape route, a second escape route is required. This is used if the first route is blocked, for example, by fire or smoke.

A window or balcony/patio door, often equipped with roller shutters, typically serves as a second escape and rescue route. However, this is not yet mandatory. The use of motorized roller shutters is not regulated by building codes.

According to the Federal Building Code, windows or French doors can serve as a second escape route; escape routes are described in the building code with a minimum height/width of 1,- 1.1 m.

Every building owner and proprietor should ensure that escape via the second escape route is possible in case of fire.

When using crank drives, we employ innovative solutions for attaching the crank rod to our roller shutter box. We prefabricate NHK systems within our roller shutter box, ensuring high-quality installation on site.

If required, we also offer roller shutter wall boxes with integrated 12-volt motors or NHK systems, including a residential ventilation system.

Our roller shutter box system optionally offers a residential ventilation system with top-of-the-line features such as a heat recovery rate of up to 92%, an air flow rate of 50 m³ per hour, and high sound insulation of 59 dB.

Roller shutter slats:

A roller shutter box with a 12 volt motor / NHK system with crank rod has a roller space of 205 mm.

With a classic Berlin slat 52/14, a blind width of up to 2400 mm would be possible.

Higher roller shutter slats are available upon request.

Belt winder wall box
