In wall constructions with thermal insulation, the window can be installed within the insulation layer using the AKTIV-SYSTEM reveal frame. This means that the surface area of the interior window sills is significantly increased. For French doors without a sill, this even expands the living space.

Secure window installation even in highly insulated brick walls

Thermal insulation of building walls has become increasingly important in recent years. To meet rising demands, the thermal conductivity of brickwork has been significantly reduced. This was achieved by increasing the number and number of holes in the bricks, and reducing the thickness of the webs and the density of the brick fragments. By additionally filling the bricks with insulating material, thermal conductivities well below 0.10 W/(m K) could be achieved, thus improving the thermal properties of the walls. However, these measures also resulted in a reduction of the mechanical strength of the masonry – an undesirable side effect that considerably complicates the safe installation of windows.

The trend in modern construction is also moving towards larger glass surfaces. Due to current requirements for sound insulation and safety, insulating glass with laminated glass panes is increasingly being used. These are generally very heavy, which further complicates their installation in highly insulated brick walls due to their low strength.

Advantages of window installation

The special design of the reveal frames offers several advantages when installing windows and window sills:

  • External thermal insulation composite systems can be connected earlier and more easily, even before the windows are installed.
  • The window, prepared sill and the inspection opening of the roller shutter or Venetian blind box from our system form a single unit.
